High Schoolers in Early Childhood
Becker High School Students in grades 10, 11, and 12 may participate in one of two elective classes in cooperation with Becker Early Childhood staff and students.
Exploration in Early Childhood is a one trimester course that will allow students to gain insight to how young children learn and grow. Students will have the opportunity to work with preschoolers daily in classroom activities focusing on social-emotional and academic growth.
Early Childhood Internship is a year long graded course that will prepare students for a possible career in education, social work, nursing, child psychology, and parenthood. In this work-based setting, students will be classroom assistants under the direct supervision of licensed early childhood teachers.
High school students interested in mentoring preschool age children are involved in coursework and classroom practices that focus on the importance of the early childhood years, language and literacy skills for young children, cognitive development through play and positive child guidance techniques.
