One School, One Book

In the months of October and November, our entire school will be reading and discussing the book Wonder by RJ Palacio in our advisory classes.  Wonder was published in 2012 and has been a favorite of our BMS students since then (our library owns 17 copies, and it's often on a waiting list all these years later!).  Wonder shares the story of Auggie Pullman, a young boy with a facial deformity who enters public school for the first time as a fifth grader.  Auggie is a wonderful character and through the story we see how his life is greatly impacted by his family, himself, the kids in his new school, and his amazing teacher, Mr. Browne.  Wonder is both funny and sad, heartbreaking and heartwarming.  The focus of the whole story is kindness, and "Choose Kind" is the mantra of fans and readers. Although many of our kids have read Wonder on their own in the last few years, we are excited to share it school-wide and to see how Hollywood brings it to life as well.  We'll be traveling as a whole school to St. Michael to see the movie adaptation on the big screen on Friday, November 17th.  We are SO excited!
