Battle of the Books is Coming

Tuesday, November 13th we will hold our first Battle of the Books competition.  We will have two different battles. Third grade will go first at 6:00 p.m., followed by fourth and fifth grades together at 7:15 p.m. The competition will take place in the small gym at the Intermediate School.

We are excited to be hosting this fun book-based competition and would love to have lots of student sign up to compete! Students will need parent/guardian permission to participate, and they must be accompanied by an adult. The trivia questions are based on 10 books (see below). A list of these titles was sent home last spring, but you will also find the list on the media center website.

For this competition students will be working with a partner.  Students can request a partner, but pairing will be based on the books they have read. Students will complete a book survey a week before the competition. They are required to read 3 books to compete.  Books can also be read to them.

There will be two rounds of competition. For the first round, each pair of students will have a whiteboard and marker. Trivia questions will be asked of the entire group with each pair writing their answer on the whiteboard. If partners miss 3 questions, they will be eliminated from the competition. This format will continue until we are down to 3-5 teams (depending on the number of competitors). For round two, students will be placed at a table together and given buzzers to ring in. The questions will be asked of the whole group. The first group to buzz in with the correct answer will get one point. The pair with the most points at the end of round two will be our Battle of the Books Champions! We have medals for first, second, and third place winners.  All competitions will receive a free bookmark. In addition, we will have drawings for free books throughout the competition.
