The Board of Education for the Becker Public Schools screened four strong finalists for the position of Superintendent on February 20. The group was assisted by community, staff and administrative teams who helped provide feedback on all of the candidates. Following a thorough discussion of these candidates, the Board unanimously agreed to engage in contract talks with Jeremy Schmidt who has enthusiastically accepted the offer to enter negotiations with the Board. Should these talks proceed as expected, a formal work agreement is slated to be approved at an upcoming Board meeting. Mr. Schmidt is expected to begin here in early July when well-respected Superintendent Steve Malone will retire. Here is a brief bio on Jeremy Schmidt:

Jeremy Schmidt has been the superintendent for Lester Prairie since 2015. Before that, he was a principal in that same district. Jeremy has served as an Adjunct instructor for St. Mary’s for the past several years where he has delivered coursework in curriculum development. Early in his career, he taught at both the elementary and middle school levels. He has completed the coursework for his Doctorate and earned his administrative licensure through St. Mary’s where his Masters was also awarded. Jeremy’s Bachelor degree in Elementary Education was earned through St. Cloud State.

The Board expresses appreciation to the several individuals from the staff, administration, and community who helped with the process at Wednesday's interviews. We were pleased with the quality of the candidate pool and excited by the choices that were available. As Board Chair, I'm confident that, with this selection, the Becker Public Schools will continue in the proud tradition of success and that Jeremy Schmidt, like Steve Malone and others before him, will prove to be a great leader of a fine organization. Aaron Jurek, Board Chair
