The primary goal of the office of Curriculum and Instruction is to support the Becker School District goal of ‘preparing self-directed learners to thrive in a changing global community’.

This is accomplished through:

1) The implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum articulated across grade levels and aligned to state and/or national standards (Marzano, 2003)

• Critical thinking & Problem Solving
• Collaboration
• Agility and Adaptability
• Initiative and Entrepreneurialism
• Effective Oral and Written Communication
• Accessing and Analyzing Information
• Curiosity and Imagination

3) Continuous improvement in teaching and learning supported by:
a. Implementation of The Art and Science of Teaching (Marzano, 2007) as a comprehensive framework for effective instructional practices
b. Implementation of Professional Learning Communities (Cohorts) (DuFours and Marzano, 2011) in order to provide faculty with job embedded opportunities to collaboratively engage in “recurring cycles of collective inquiry and action research to achieve better results for the students they serve” (DuFour, DuFour, Eaker & Many, 2010)

4) Instructional technology initiatives, including a 1-1 iPad implementation in the High School, designed to improve digital learning opportunities and supported by the office of Instructional Technology.
